The Lake

We don’t know exactly how old the lake is but we do know that it’s been around for at least 400 years. It’s about 7 acres and while it’s triangular it also twists at the top end to give it some interesting features. Also at this end it carries a lot of silt. This means it is shallow and the carp can be seen either swimming with dorsal fins out of the water or creating bow waves of muddy water as they ‘fin around’ or ‘torpedo’ through the area. It can be incredibly exciting.

Of course there are deeper areas as well with about 2 metres at the dam end.

Swims

As well as new fish we also cut new bivvy swims for 2008.

The lawn – double swim covering most of the bottom half of the lake. This is where the deeper water can be found. It’s also close to the BBQ and the site of the evening camp fire. It’s also the closest swim to the bar! A Dutch angler had 10 runs in an evening from this swim one night last year – i.e. before we introduced the new stock!

The pads & the chair - these swims are close to each other but are set so as to offer fishing in different parts of the lake. Secluded and sheltered.

The wilderness
– the furthest swim from the house with access to the shallowest part of the lake and some interesting overhanging trees and bushes. Will probably be more challenging during the day but should prove a good night swim.

The rocks – this swim is up the left hand side of the lake.  Beautifully secluded, it lays at the bottom of an interesting rock formation. This swim gets fairly sunny by mid-morning but with enough shade to keep out of it if you prefer.

The Rocks -
you can cast to the best fish holding area from here.
